Hope for Egypt’s Nubians

for National Geographic

When Egypt built the Aswan high dam in the 1960s, it brought a new source of power for the country and wrestled control over annual floods. It came at the cost of relocating tens of thousands of Nubians who were destined to see their homeland sink below the newly created Lake Nasser once the dam was finalized.

Now for the first time, Nubians and their struggle to return to their homeland have been given mention in Egypt’s in new constitution.

Vignette Interactive worked with National Geographic to produce powerful visuals that tell the story of the Nubians and their renewed hopes of reclaiming their land along the Nile.
