Refugee Awareness Campaigns

for The International Rescue Committee

We are very proud to partner with the International Rescue Committee to help bring much-needed attention to the refugee crisis in Europe.

Here are some of the projects we’ve produced with the IRC:

Video – We All Have Dreams. We worked with the IRC and Game of Thrones co-star Lena Headey to share personal stories of refugees on the Greek island of Lesbos who are desperately trying to make their way to western Europe. We asked refugees stuck in limbo there a simple question: What are your dreams? Interviewed in front of a simple black background and stripped of the context of the refugee camp, they were simply fellow human beings — people with hopes and dreams like anyone else.

Photography – It Could Be Us. Along with the We All Have Dreams video project, we created a photo series that was published extensively in the press. The photographs were also showcased at a widely-attended gallery show at the Union Club in London. We printed life size versions of the photographs so that people who attended the show could look directly into the eyes of the refugees. The challenge was to try and help viewers understand there is not a real difference between themselves and refugees — except, perhaps, where they were born. The IRC also used the photographs in a postcard campaign in which Americans could send the postcards to elected representatives, explaining why they support and stand with refugees.

Video and Photography – Waiting. On September 1, 2016, one year after the body of three-year-old Syrian refugee Alan Kurdi washed up on a Turkish beach, the IRC released a video and photo package about refugees in limbo. Alan Kurdi’s name still resonates with the world. The sense of loss and compassion the international community felt was real. But politics have hit an impasse. What happened to those who survived the dangerous journey? They’re simply waiting.

Video and Photography: Pikpa camp. We produced a video showcasing the essential work IRC is doing for vulnerable refugees on Lesbos island. Our photographs were also used in a number of IRC articles, as well as on social media. Here are a few examples:

  • We have lost our home, our country – but now we have Greece
  • The heroes I’ve met
  • A refugee — but above all a mother,
